Astro Bot is, without a shadow of a doubt, this year’s best platforming game. Hell, it could even be a contender for Game of the Year (GOTY) because of how complete the game is as rr-99 a whole package. The game is visually stunning, has great sound design, has simple yet fun gameplay, makes use of the exclusive PlayStation controls, and, most importantly, has a ton of content. Sony and Team ASOBI have knocked it out of the park with this game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this game is regarded as one of Sony’s best releases to date. In its never-ending chase for maturity and realism, the video game industry is leaving kids behind. It makes me sad to think that today’s young players have so few options if they want to play something like Spyro the Dragon.

 

But despite being a museum to Sony’s past, Astro Bot is more concerned with looking forward, not backwards. I expected it to be a pretty fun little cartoon romp where the main draw would be pointing at the screen and going “Look! It’s Nathan Drake!”. What I got was one of the greatest platformers I have ever played, in terms of creativity, consistency, and cleverness, that just so happens to have a bunch of PlayStation mascots inside it. There are 91 stages in Astro Bot, making this one of Team Asobi’s biggest and most ambitious games to date. Between them, they boast well over 460 collectibles, including 120 Puzzle Pieces, 10 Lost Galaxy Warps, and 332 stranded Bots that are just waiting to be rescued. Yeah, and of course every game is different – different art styles, different engines, different visual goals, etc. I can’t speak to Bowser’s Fury (yet), but I wouldn’t doubt that’s great company to be in.

 

I think I’ll actually buy the game now because it seems absolutely wonderful. This is the first PS exclusive I’ve been excited to play for a couple of years as I absolutely loved the PSVR game and the free PS5 game. The news that fans can expect more Astro Bot was met with praise, though some hoped it would not lead to a yearly release schedule.

That being said, I will buy this for sure, but I won’t spend a penny over £30. I can’t even say hey this Sega Rally like Indie should have more to it. Because the audience of players are too nostalgically stupid to care.

 

This isn’t something that directly influences the core gameplay but it makes it feel better. There are games that remind us why we fell in love with video games in the first place. It’s a phenomenally polished title, featuring great audiovisuals and, above all, brilliant gameplay that never gets boring. It’s also a family-friendly game, perfect for everyone to enjoy together. It’s also worth noting that, before you rescue them, none of the characters do anything that is in anyway related to them or their games.

 

What Are All Special Bots In Astro Bot? Deacon St John – Brave Biker

 

The Dude Raiding level unlocks after you defeat the final boss of Serpent Starway, Lady Venomara. You unlock Photo Mode at the same time you unlock Safari Park at the Crash Site, by picking up the camera as soon as you enter the building. This will take a total of 64 Puzzle Pieces, or four groups of 16. There are 42 Rescued Bots to collect in Serpent Starway, and you must rescue all of them in order to unlock the Fangs Very Much! This includes all Rescued Bots on secret worlds in Serpent Starway. There are 43 Rescued Bots to collect in Tentacle System, and you must rescue all of them in order to unlock the Tentacular Spectacular trophy.

 

However, to everyone’s surprise, our adorable and bouncy bot jumped all the way up and cleared those hardcore RPG game’s levels to grab the “Game of the Year” award at The Game Awards 2024 hosted by Geoff Keighley. Climb up the snowball, pull the wire, and activate the vacuum device. Suck up all the ice blocks and head inside the tropical oasis to find the disco ball. Activate it to use the secret exit and unlock the Turtles in Trash level in the Lost Galaxy.

 

There are only a handful of baddies to bash aside from the bosses, and while they get a little tougher with tweaks to their attacks, this is the one area where it risks growing stale. Still, Team Asobi may argue its smaller complement of baddies that grow in complexity are what keep it consistent. It’s a play straight out of Mario’s book, and in the platforming world, the plumber is still the king even as a new pretender climbs higher to the summit. Players will be able to find a Puzzle Piece floating around in space in the Tentacle System, Serpent Starway, Camo Cosmos, and Feather Cluster galaxies. Crash Site serves as a kind of hub world, in which players can find 35 Bots and 11 Puzzle Pieces. Like many of PlayStation’s limited edition DualSense controllers, the Astro Bot DualSense is based on one of its many franchises, specifically 2024’s Game of the Year, Astro Bot.

 

But where the real brilliance of Astro Bot becomes apparent is in the worlds themselves, which constantly add unique features, gimmicks, and mechanics, but integrally those all build off those core foundations of gameplay. In one, you hit switches that change the level between night and day, changing the entire layout at the same time. In another, you shrink into a tiny mouse, seeing things from a whole new perspective and opening up wild new solutions to puzzles.

 

Drop off the side and walk through the sand waterfall here, defeating the two pink enemies. You’ll find yourself in a small cave that has a bot at the back. There are seven bots in “Trapped In Time.” You’ll find the first two before you go inside the cave section of the level, the next three inside the cave, and the final two once you leave the cave. I’ve played all of the GOTY nominees, except FF VII Rebirth, this year. Sure, the variety of emotions, the adrenaline rush of combat, the awe of exploring, and such that comes with playing these RPGs is unmatched.

 

Astro Bot won multiple awards including Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2024, the 21st British Academy Games Awards, and the 28th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. Astro Bot is a joyful platforming experience that soars thanks to inventive level design and countless loving nods to PlayStation’s rich history.
