While there are moments where the narrative will require you to control either Miles or Peter during specific scenes, there are also times when you can switch between the two on a whim. The choice is yours on how you want to use their specific powers to take on certain activities and crimes. And if SC88 have been blessed with an upgrade, then you can expect something even more intimidating from the bosses. Between Kraven’s wily viciousness and the sheer overwhelming might of Lizard and Venom, there’s a level of brutality and strength from Spider-Man’s nemeses that you didn’t see in the previous games. Now you can build up height and speed with web-swinging before quickly switching to Web Wings to glide in areas like Queens, where there are few tall buildings.
Peter’s combat system changes with the appearance of the symbiote, adding spectacular and dangerous abilities. The combat system in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still built on acrobatic maneuvers and web shooting for non-lethal stunning of opponents during fights, but it has been expanded and improved. Both heroes received four active combat skills that can be chosen from a larger number of options, and the skills from previous games have been retained by the heroes and do not need to be unlocked again.
Eight years later, Spider-Man takes on the villain Mister Negative, working to stop his plans to control New York City’s criminal underworld. Using Spider-Man’s ability to shoot webs and sling himself around New York, players follow Peter’s story while fighting villains along the way. Suits are the key behind unique abilities in terms of both combat and traversal. The sequel is sure to introduce plenty of new Spidey suits for both Peter and Miles, though another layer of depth could be on the way.

How much this dual protagonist feature actually adds to the game is a little questionable I think, but the execution is undeniably slick. With new suit styles you can vary different colour patterns to spin your Spider-Man a fresh look, but the new suit tech system allows you to upgrade various attributes, like traversal, damage and health. And from that you can make even more choices to equip specific elements of that attribute. Marvel’s New York will naturally be hiding lots of enigmatic and rewarding secrets in its streets and skylines, but one thing which has been given a Super Hero glow-up are the suits you can unlock for Miles and Peter. One thing is clear upon comparing Marvel’s Spider-Man to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The latter features a ton more explosive action sequences than you can imagine.
Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. The devs claim that they have also brought some general performance optimizations. Patch 7 fixes a crash that could occur when minimizing the game application.
